Stylish Handwriting

In light of Dana being in Vegas, I, EP, thought I would share a gambling story (since I've not been fortunate enough to have visited Vegas since I turned 21.)

Unfortunately, I only have been to the casinos ONCE in my life, and the night was an interesting one.

My friend A was in town for the weekend, and I was so excited to see her. She'd been in Houston all summer, and we had been planning her visit for a few weeks.

Right after she got into town, A and I headed to our favorite restaurant and bar -- The Chimes. After ordering an appetizer, we decided a celebratory pitcher was in order because she was back in town. Our favorite beer, Purple Haze, was one of the cheaper pitchers for $5, and we were ecstatic.

We drank the entire pitcher over our appetizer, dinner and dessert. It was incredible, and when we finished everything up, we decided to head back to my apartment.

We didn't know what we wanted to do for the evening, but we knew two things. First, we wanted to have a few more drinks (specifically our specialty, Sebastian.) And secondly, we wanted to hang out with our boys.

Back at my apartment, we prepared Sebastian. One packet of raspberry Crystal Light. One packet of lemonade Crystal light. A few cups of water and LOTS of vodka. The Crystal Light masks the vodka burn, and this drink? It's dangerous.

We poured our first drinks.

Sebastian was a great idea.

We poured our second drinks.

Oh, yes it was.

Somewhere around our third drinks, we decided to round up our boys and head out on the town. And once they arrived at my apartment, the decision was made that we would go to the casinos.

I threw on a dress -- a gorgeous dress I actually wore the night my boy and I started talking. I thought it'd make the evening more exciting. A did the same, and we were ready for whatever came our way.

Now, me being the glorious lightweight I am, I was just along for the ride. I was no part of the decision making process, and I sure wasn't going to be our driver. No. No. No.

A's boy drove, and we stopped at the ATM before heading downtown to our final destination. My boy had to enter my information into the machine, and he limited me to $20 for the evening. That choice saved my bank account.

Then we were off to the casino, looking fabulous with cash in hand.

The rest of the evening is a little fuzzy for me, to be completely honest.

We spent our time at the casino on the slot machine floor. I loved the lights. (Yes, I'm THAT drunk.) And pulling the lever? It was quite possibly my favorite thing EVER.

I spent my $20 in about 15 minutes, having lost every penny to the quarter slots. My boy had a $5, and we were able to play that a long time. I couldn't tell you how long we played because, well, I was a little out of it. But I was having fun. That's what mattered.

My boy speaks about it like I was the happiest I had ever been in my life. He tells me I was so joyful about everything, especially pulling the lever and watching the wheels on the machine spin. ... He gets a good laugh whenever we talk about it.

A and her boy were playing the slots, too, and they took home around $50.

We called it a night early.

A and her boy cashed in.

My boy and I made our way out, empty handed. I remember seeing some of his friends -- I couldn't tell you their names or anything -- but I met them that night. I'm sure they had a fantastic first impression of me.

My boy and I were dropped off at his apartment, and I turned in for the night.

I awoke hours later, my tummy feeling horrible. Sebastian did me in, and I was sick for the rest of the evening and into the morning. To this day, this is the only time I have been so miserable after an evening of fun, friends and drinks.

And, to make everything worse, I didn't even have anything to show for me having gone to the casino, unless you count my bank account, which was $20 poorer in the morning.

Here's to hoping Dana fares better -- physically and monetarily -- in Vegas!

Gorgeous Katelin....

Helloooooo all of Dana's fabulous readers! I'm Katelin from gorgeous footsteps in the sand... stepping in while Dana is off off and away.

On this fine Monday before Thanksgiving, which just so happens to be one of my little brothers 13th birthday, I thought I would share with you some of things I'm most thankful for about my brothers (my mom's jaw just dropped for sure, haha):

When I was living at home I could always count on one of my brothers to wake me up if I ever slept past my alarm.
If I ever want to see a cartoon or kiddie movie in theaters I have a guaranteed movie partner.
They think that the Sims 2 is a cool game and don't make fun of me for my dorkiness.
My youngest brother can be persuaded to wash my car for five dollars and I love him for it.
I can always count on one of my two brothers to tell me the truth about how my outfit is, haha. Not even kidding, on more than one occasion I've asked them how I looked before
going out and always with an honest response.
When asked "why are you so cute" my youngest brother would say "because I look like Katelin." Seriously it was priceless, he learned so well.

And I'm most thankful that although my little brothers drive me insane most of the time, still love me and will always be there for me.
Do you have siblings? Anything they do that you're thankful for?
Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone! :)

Painful Job Search

Hola, JustTalk Readers! It's me, Carmen from La Petite Belle, and I'm here to entertain you today while Dana is away in Vegas, baby!!!!If you read my blog (who am I kidding, right?) you would know that I just ended the longest and most painful job search that has ever existed in the history of mankind. I've had a job become unavailable right after I decided that job was my life's purpose, and of course bad days when I felt I simply could not go on. I also had days (ok, a day) when I decided to look at the positive side of being unemployed, telling myself that being unemployed means I can wait for the mailman to deliver my latest Victoria's Secret online purchase while everyone else sits in a cubicle doing boring paperwork.

Anyway, it is all over after I got the best ever job offer yesterday. After two nerve-wracking interviews and being one of 20 candidates, apparently they saw something in me (although I'm not quite sure what?). And now it's a thing of the past.So I want to share with you some tips.
Are you job searching? Good, now let's get started.

1) Don't be too picky.

In the beginning, I would walk into interviews like I was the CEO if a multi-million dollar company walking into a room of people who were there to convince me hire them. That obviously wasn't the case and I quickly learned my lesson. Have a humble attitude, which I lacked until very, very recently (ha-ha) and a desire to show the employer why you would be the best pick, and you've made an impression. Don't negotiate until after you receive an offer. Say "yes, yes and yes", and when you get the job, then you can say "yes, no, and maybe".

2) Don't get too excited.

We've all heard the "don't put all your eggs in one basket" or something like that. It's so true, because after being rejected the first time, I thought my world was ending. I felt useless, as I scrunched the regret letter I got in the mail, opened it back up again and wrote "I HATE YOU" all over it with a sharpie. If you have tons of options, you won't get devastated after one rejection. Or maybe I'm just a super-sensitive girl with obvious anger issues.

3) Don't send thank you cards to all employers after the interview.

Because now, I have no pretty stationary left. Although the job I got makes it totally worth it, and I'll probably be able to afford a new stationary set in the near future, seriously, what if I didn't get this job? I'd be unhappy, broke, and out of pretty stationary which has my name all pretty in cursive. So save your pretty stationary for the good jobs- the ones you really like. You wouldn't get out the fancy soap for when your sister comes over, would you?

And that is all. I hope you learn from my mistakes, and while you're home browsing for jobs on Monster, why don't you stop by my blog and say hola?

The Sweetest Addiction

Well, hello there. I'm Ashley, and I can usually be found writing over at my blog, Our Little Apartment. Dana holds a special place in my heart, because she was the first blogger to tag me for a meme…or maybe she gave me an award? I forget which it was, but I remember feeling a sense of belonging to this blogging community because of Dana and her faithful commitment to us bloggy friends. :) What a lovely lady she is, right?

So! While Dana is off enjoying Vegas, I'm here to ask you a question. Or maybe muse over a predicament. Or just confess something.

[In case any coworker were to find my blog (oh, please no!), I wouldn't be able to post about this over there.]

Most days at the office where I work are the same: Get to work, fire up the computer, attempt to make a to-do list, and alternate for hours between reading blogs, Twittering, and trying to actually get work done for, oh, you know, WORK. Many days, I even write my blog posts at work because it's just another way to procrastinate. I leave at the end of the day feeling defeated and frustrated with myself. [Although, since this is only a one year position, meaning I'm leaving in July anyway, I'm not too worried about getting fired.]

I'm slightly ashamed looking at the past few sentences. Who is this girl and when did her work ethic become so insanely terrible!?

Today, for example – I have to get tons of work done, so I'm avoiding Twitter and blogs. (Although, I am totally writing this at work.) I have no ability to be moderate in these things, apparently. It's either the whole tamale or I completely abstain. Where is my self-control? I'm honestly a little afraid that I'm ruining myself by being such a bad worker…I am better than that, darn it!

I guess my question for you all – Dana's faithful readers and my own – do you blog/Twitter/waste time on the interwebs while you're at work? Do you feel guilty? How do you ensure that your productivity doesn't take a blow?

PS: Dear internet, my sweetest, most favorite drug – I could never quit you. But why must you be so addictive, darn it!

Hello everyone, the lovely Dana has asked me, Auburn Kat to post while she is hopefully winning lots of money in Vegas. I won't mention the fact that I'm extremely jealous!!! This is my first guest post ever, so please humor me if it's not good!

Sometimes I wonder if I am cut out for being in a relationship or not.

When my ex and I broke up I made a commitment to myself that I would not get into another relationship for one year so I could find out who the real me was again. Well, my one-year was officially up a couple of weeks ago. Not surprisingly, I had no issue in accomplishing my goal. I definitely have found who I am as a person and you could say that I was a bit of an over achiever in the not getting involved in another relationship department seeing as I've been on a total of zero dates in the last year. Yes, you read that right, zero dates. Granted, there was a couple of what I consider non-dates but nothing else, definitely nothing serious.

Now that my year is up, I'm not sure if I want to be in a relationship. Maybe it's all of the bad memories that I have from my previous relationship that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth? Maybe it's the fact that I haven't met anyone who lives in the same zip code, let alone same area code as I do that I find remotely interesting and attractive. Maybe life just seems less stressful by not being in a relationship? It's definitely not that I still want to be with my ex because I don't.

What is it? Why don't I want to be in a relationship? The only answer that I can come up with is that right now, I'm pretty happy with where my life is and I'm completely content with going to bed alone. Some people always have to be in a relationship and I'm just not one of them.

Then again, if the right guy tries to convince me otherwise, I'm sure I could be persuaded!

Next Stop Las Vegas

So tomorrow will sort of start my vacation. I have to work tomorrow then I will be leaving to stay with friends and then brian & I have a very early flight saturday morning....

I am soo excited! Brian and I haven't been away for 2 years and really deserve this getaway! We have both been working sooo hard and really deserve some quality time together away from the hustle and bussle of our everyday lives!

I will say that I am not to fond of flying - and with Vegas being a 5 hour flight I'm not really looking forward to that. But I have snacks packed, a portable DVD player, movies, magazines, and lots of other stuff to keep me/us occupied...

While I'm gone I have lined up some really, really great guest bloggers to hold down the fort! Check them out - they are some of my favorites and I know you'll love them and what they have to say! I know this sounds silly, but I'm going to miss my blog and writing my own posts! And I know I'll miss reading your blogs while I'm away and leaving comments. It really has become such a big part of my life and I truly enjoy it. It's very theraputic! But don't forget about me while I'm gone and make sure you still visit! I'm telling you, you'll love what I have lined up!!! And I'm looking forward to reading your comments and seeing what you think....

I'll Miss you all and I'll talk to you when I get back!!

Brian's Q & A Part 1

Hey Guys.
Thanks for taking the time to ask me some questions. Dana really enjoys her Blog and I'm happy to be a part of it.
Let's get to it.
The first question was asked by Andrea. She asked "what's your favorite thing about Dana?"

**That's a tough question. I love everything about Dana... But I really love her personality. She's fun loving.

Next, that Short Chick asked "besides riding around on your motorcycle, what is/are your favorite hobbies?"

**I don't think I have many hobbies anymore.... Probably watching movies, detailing cars and my motorcylces. Spending time with my friends at the Gym...

Future Mom Heather asked, "if you had 3 wishes what would they be?
1. To be wealthy.

2. To stay healthy.

3. To be in a position where I would be able to help those that weren't as fortunate.

Amanda asked, "What nickname do you have for Dana?"
**We call each other babe, baby!! And Hodgie - don't ask... it's a joke!!

"What nickname does Dana have for you?"

**Bri, Babe, Baby...

"If you had to dress-up as a Disney character and walk around the park all day...who would you choose?"

**Buzz Light Year. I think I would relate most and my personality suits him best. He is most easily relatable to my personality!

Lori asked, "if you could travel anywhere... where would you go? "

**I could make my way to the French Riveria or any other place in the world but I would want to go the Moon and look back on Earth! Very few people have been there and tt seems dangerous and scary!

"what is your favorite meal that Dana makes?"

**Chicken with Artichoke Hearts and Potatoes!

And Matt asked, "What do you think about Dana having a blog?"

**I think it's nice. It's a healthy way to spend down time and exercise writing and imagination.

And, "So how did she mention it to you?"

**Shy & Embarrassed she said "guess what? I'm a big dork, I started a blog." She assumed that I imagine all people that blog are dorks. But I think it's a very fun way to pass down time and a great hobby! I'm happy she has it!!

Thanks again for all of your great questions..
Stop by tomorrow and check out my Q & A Part 2!!
Have a good day!

Donnie The Doberman Dog Genius

My mom was telling me about this amazing Doberman that she saw on the Discovery Channel the other day. I was in shock when i saw the video!! It was seriously so cool....
Donnie is a five year old rescued Doberman.

No one knew anything about Donnie's past except for the fact that he was found living on the street eating out of the garbage can. After his new owner adopted him It took Donnie several months to get used to doorways and going up and down the stairs. After about six months he got accustomed to his new home, and even let his new owner put her arm around him without getting scared.

Donnie's owner was very, very good to him and bought him tons of stuffed animals to play with. Soon after she noticed that Donnie started arranging his toys in patterns in their big backyard - triangles, circles, parallel lines…. and in many cases grouping them together - all frogs, all monkeys, etc.... Either all of the toys were face up in the arrangements, or all face down. He would even go as far as making sure they were touching or holding hands in a lot of his designs.

Here Donnie arranged his animals to make a perfect triangle!

And this is what Donnie did the day after he let his owner put her arm around him for the 1st time since adopting him!

Donnie's owner knew there was something to all of this so she contacted many doctors.. Finally, Barbara Smuts, a psychology professor at the University of Michigan who studies social behavior in canines listened. Of course Dr. Smuts assumed that the owner was either helping Donnie or was crazy. Smuts finally flew out to see Donnie and at first couldn’t believe her eyes, especially after setting up hidden cameras and watching from indoors so as not to cause any distraction.

Still think it sounds a little crazy - take a look for yourself!! It's pretty interesting! Donnie is sooo cute!! I am so happy he's found a good home!

Must Get Delsym

So i feel like I have been M.I.A. this week - it's just that I still feel so crappy! I'm just hoping that I start to feel better ASAP cause Bri and I leave for Vegas a week from Saturday. I promised myself I would got to the EMO on saturday if I didn't feel any better. So, I'll keep you posted!! I mean, who wants to be sick for their vacation? Not me!!

Anyway, since I've been sick this week I have developed such a nasty cough that has kept me up for the past 3 nights in a row. So you can imagine what kind of kindergarten teacher I have been this week(a not so smily, very grumpy one)...

Last night my mom told me to go out and get this medicine called Delsym. She said that she heard it was great for coughs... So Brian went out and picked up dinner(and did the dishes, and rubbed my back, and cleaned up) and I told him to pick me up some of this Delsym stuff... And let me tell you it worked like a charm.. It was the most relief I have seen in days. And thank goodness cause my head felt like it was about to explode like a volcano waiting to rupture..... So i wanted to pass along this little bit of info. It used to be a perscription but now it's OTC lucky for me!!! So check it out if you are ever in need of a cough medicine...

I know this is a lame post for today, but I'm beat and not looking forward to a long, rainy friday with little ones..... My head is just not in it...

My New Obbession

Hell hath no fury like an angry chef, and no chef has a sharper temper than Gordon Ramsay when things go wrong in the kitchen.
Meet my new obbession - Gordon Ramsay star of the TV show
Kitchen Nightmares.

What he does is go to restaurants in need of serious help and teaches them to improve as a whole so they can run a successful restaurant... It is SOOO great and i love it! I love his brutal honest truth, it is so refreshing! He comes in and tastes the food, critizies the food, and then overlooks a dinner run.. He then follows up with a restaurant makeover and a menu makeover. Then Gordon does a relaunching of the restuarant to bring in new and old customers.

For restaurant owners in crisis with lazy chefs in the kitchen, temperamental wait staffs and few and unhappy diners, it’s time to call in the restaurant industry’s equivalent of 911. And that ladies & gentlemen is Chef Gordon Ramsay.

Today I took a sick day from work because I still don't feel well at all from the Flu Shot. I took it as an opportunity to lay in bed with my laptop and watch some episodes online that I've never seen before... Check him out - you'll be surprised how awesome the show really is.

Have you ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? Or do you recognize Chef Ramsay from Hell's Kitchen? Another good cooking show is Top Chef. This season it's in N.Y.C. and the season premiere starts on Wednesday!!!

Woo-Hoo.. I love cooking shows!

Not Me Monday

I didn't throw out a big tupperware container because I didn't feel like washing it.. That would be a waste of money and that would make me lazy!

I didn't make Brian go back to the store because I forgot the key ingredient for dinner! I would never be so forgetful..

I would never tell my kids if they were quiet for 30 minutes I'd let them pick a prize because I need down time and had a headache. I would never bribe them with material objects.. Not me!!

I would never not answer my phone because
I didn't want to talk to someone!!
That would be mean!

I didn't burst out crying like a bottle up soda can last night cause I was mad and upset! I would never cry to make myself feel better; I would certainly talk about it out loud!
What did you not do today?

reaction to FLU SHOT

All i have to say is YUCK(eventhough I'd probably feel better using a different word that ryhmes with yuck)! But i feel totally and utterly yucky! Just like crap!!

So I decided to get the Flu Shot Thursday afternoon.. I have been planning on getting it but just have been putting it off.. So when i walked in to the foodstore Thursday to go grocery shopping I was estatic to see a table set up saying "Get Your Flu Shot Here." I felt like there were no more excuses not to get it!! So I manned up and got the shot!

About 2 hours later my arm hurt like hell! But i brushed it off.. Well yesterday I woke up with the chills and body aches.. I felt horrible all day long.. Now I feel even worse - Fever, extreme Nauseousness, back and body aches, etc.. do i need to go on! I feel like I have the Flu!! GREAT!! Wasn't I trying to prevent this from happening?

So I did some research (i know- I probably should have done it before the shot) and though tons of doctors say you can't get the flu from the shot they do say you get all of the symptoms - so hello? What the hell does that mean? You don't get the flu, just the symptoms; beats me! They also say if it's the 1st time you're getting the shot (which it was for me) that you should expect all of those feelings... So I'm pretty much left miserable now until this god awful feeling goes away!!
I am soooo regretting getting the shot **BIG SIGH**

So much for having a nice, relaxing weekend!!
It's always something isn't it?
So I say BUYER BEWARE of the Flu Shot!
It may make you feel better down the road - but not off the bat!

What's On The Agenda

You would think I'd take advantage of a day off from work and do something extremly relaxing right? Wrong! Here is what's on my agenda for the day:

7:30 am - Shower
8:30 am to 2:15 pm - Babysit job #1
2:30 pm to 3:30 pm - Babysit job #2
3:45 pm - Pedicure
4:15 pm - Prep Baked Ziti
5:00 pm - Get Ready
5:45 pm - Leave for NY for dinner party
6:45 pm to ??? - Get to relax with Brian & Friends......

I had off yesterday too and that day was filled running around in preparation for todays busy day!! I got my hair done, went shopping for a baby shower I have on sunday, went food shopping, baked a cake for tonight, got a flu shot (which BTW has been killing my arm), cleaned up the house, and made a yummy dinner... Just call me super girlfriend, LOL.... Luckily tomorrow I have NOTHING to do but chill out; let's just hope Brian has the day off! That would make it perfect!!!!

What are you doing today? Anything fun?

Grandpa Is Ok

I just heard that my grandfather is doing ok.. He made it through surgery and the doctors were able to put in 1 stent! I guess 1 is better then nothing.. He is resting comfortably and will hopefully be able to come home tomorrow or the next day!!
A big thanks to everyone for thier well wishes and prayers. It is greatly appreciate! You have no idea how much it means during a tough time like this!!! Thanks again!

Grandpa Update

Thanks to Rebecka from Mommy Moments for making this picture for me!! I will post the other ones she did later on today!!

My grandfather is still in the hospital! They are moving him today to another hospital where a Heart Surgeon is going to try and put stents in to open up his veins and arteries! Awhile ago the doctors said his veins were too small and closed for this procedure so I guess know we will just have to wait and see...

I tried to visit him the other day but had to wait for over 2 hours because he was having another sort of procedure. By the time it was over the waiting hours were over and I had to go home!! Visiting hours are only from 12 to 2 and wold you know I showed up and it was 11:58 and the nurse wouldn't let me in!! A little aggravating, especially since I had my 90 year old grandmother standing with me, lol....

I will keep you poosted with how everything goes today. My mom said it could be dangerous or a big let down if the Doc's can't get the stents in.. So we just have to wait and see!

It Was Only A Matter of Time - DeAnna Pappas & Jesse Csincsak Are Splitsville

I was a huge huge HUGE bachelorette fan and I LOVED DeAnna Marie Pappas until she picked Jesse Csincsak.. I was sooooo hoping she would go for cute, sweet Jason.. The more stable, more secure, more realistic Jason...
It was only a matter of time before another one bit the dust... Ladies & Gentlemen DeAnna and Jesse are no longer together!!! LOL....

It is official DeAnna broke up with Jesse's ass because she loved him but wasn't in love with him!!!

Dear DeAnna,

You picked the wrong guy. Not only that, you thought you fell in love fell in love on a reality TV show.. That only worked for Trista & Ryan! Did you really have to "set the date" and break that poor fools heart?

The girl that wants you to find love

Dear Jesse,

Did you really think it would work? Or were you just mesmerized by that hot ass in a bikini and her great personality? Hang in there buddy there will be plenty of rebound snow bunnies!

The girl that knew you were the wrong choice

Dear Jason,

Feel amazing and great!! You were the better choice and have hopefully moved on and are dating a great girl.. You are the true winner because you have the most amazing son!!

The girl that wanted you to win

Dear ABC Executives,

Though I sooo love the Bachelor & Bachelorette isn't it about time to nix it? Be happy knowing one couple has made it! But you are setting up these people for failed public relationships where we all know it's not going to work and are just placing bets to see when it'll fizzle....

The girl that loooves bad reality TV

So an old friend my high school is getting married soon and unfortunatley has a big problem with the brial shop she purchased her dress from....She purchased a dress - and then the bridal shop filed Chapter 11 (bankruptcy) & now she is left without a dress, and they're still in business! It seems to me that the Bridal Shop is one big scam because they have done things like this before.. The shop is called Calvary Bridal House and is located in Millburn, NJ....

So brides beware!!!! Here is a little bit of her story from a local Newspaper and a little about the Bridal House and their situation.
I know I would be MAD as anything if this happened to me!! She deserves to at least get her money back or receive the dress she has ordered - I mean that's only fair.... I did some research myself on this Calvary and it seems like this isn't the 1st time something like this has happened!!! They have taken brides money before, made up stories and then the girls don't get their dresses.. Seems like one BIG scam to me!!!!!

Annoying Phone Calls

I find it extremly annoying when telemarketers call my cell phone.. I mean why do buisnesses find it neccessary to sell my phone number? Just the other day i got a phone call from some woman that works on the
Barack Obama campaign and she wanted me to volunteer my time!! Like serioulsy, how did you get my number....?

I found this website where you can report phone numbers so others know that that particular number is either a scammer or an annoyancer. Phone Number Reporting allows users to comment about calls from certain numbers and let other users know what to expect from that number. Was it a sales call? Was it a wrong number? Check it out if you get those annoying phonce calls..... It could be helpful!

And It Gets Better.....

I know I just asked you to pray for my friend's brother that passed away - but it seems like I could use a few more prayers myself....

My mother just called to inform me that my grandfather had a heart attack and it doesn't look to good.. He is in intensive care... My grandfather has always suffered with a bad heart - had multiple bypasses - and recently had a few stints in and out of the hospital; but it doesn't make it any easier... I fully understand that he is old and that he has lived such a great life.. Call me selfish but I want him here with me a little longer...
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.. I will keep you posted!
Much Love,

Please Pray

An old friend lost her younger brother this week!
It was a complete shock!!!!It was not only a devastating loss for the enitre family but for the enitre community and University he attended.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
